In the world of herbal wellness, Giloy (also known as Tinospora cordifolia or Guduchi) holds a revered place. Known as the “root of immortality” in Ayurveda, this powerhouse herb is celebrated for its immunity-boosting, detoxifying, and anti-inflammatory properties. When brewed correctly, Giloy tea becomes a soothing and therapeutic elixir – perfect for daily wellness or seasonal immunity support.

In this guide, I’ll walk you through how to brew the perfect cup of Giloy tea, including expert tips for maximizing its potency and flavor.

What Is Giloy and Why It Matters

Giloy is a climbing shrub found in tropical regions of India. Its stems are packed with antioxidants, alkaloids, and glycosides that help purify the blood, support digestion, and strengthen the immune system. Ayurvedic practitioners often recommend Giloy for:

  • Boosting immunity and fighting infections
  • Reducing fever and inflammation
  • Managing blood sugar levels
  • Relieving stress and fatigue
  • Promoting clear skin and detoxification

When transformed into a tea, Giloy delivers these benefits in a gentle, easily absorbable form.

Ingredients You’ll Need

To make one cup of perfect Giloy tea, gather:

  • 1-2 pieces of fresh Giloy stem (about 4-6 inches long) – or ½ teaspoon of Giloy powder if fresh isn’t available
  • 1½ cups of water
  • ½ teaspoon grated ginger (optional, for flavor and digestion)
  • 1-2 tulsi (holy basil) leaves (optional, for added immunity)
  • ½ teaspoon honey or jaggery (optional, for sweetness – add after brewing)
  • A squeeze of lemon (optional, for vitamin C boost)
  • Or A bag of U-SIP herbal tea (has all the above and much more) or half teaspoon of U-SIP loseleaf tea of your favourite flavour for hassle-free yet healthy and tasty Giloy tea.

Step-by-Step Brewing Method

Step 1: Prepare the Giloy

If you’re using fresh Giloy stems, wash them thoroughly and cut them into small pieces. Slightly crush them with a mortar and pestle to release the active compounds, no worry here if U-SIP is handy.

Step 2: Boil the Water

In a stainless steel pan, bring 1½ cups of water to a gentle boil.

Step 3: Add the Herbs

Add the Giloy pieces (or powder) to the boiling water. If desired, add ginger and tulsi leaves for a more aromatic, medicinal blend, at this point, add our teabag or half teaspoon of Giloy tea blend.

Step 4: Simmer Slowly

Reduce the flame and simmer for 10–15 minutes, allowing the water to reduce to about one cup. This slow simmering helps extract the beneficial compounds fully, simmer for 4-5 minutes only if our blend or teabag is used. Keeping it for 10-15 minutes will bitter the taste.

Step 5: Strain and Serve

Strain the tea into a cup. Add honey or jaggery once it cools slightly (never add honey to boiling liquid – it can destroy its enzymes). Finish with a squeeze of lemon if you like a tangy twist, again for U-SIP users, no need to add anything, we have taken care of everything.

Expert Tips for the Perfect Brew

Avoid Over-Boiling

Overheating can degrade some of the delicate antioxidants. Keep the simmer gentle.

Enhance Synergy

Combining Giloy with herbs like tulsi, turmeric, or black pepper can amplify its immunity benefits, we have made balanced blends so you need not to worry for it.

Drink at the Right Time

Enjoy Giloy tea in the morning on an empty stomach or before bedtime for best results.

Consistency Is Key

Giloy works best when consumed regularly (3–4 times a week).

The Taste & Experience

Giloy tea has a slightly bitter, earthy flavor – a hallmark of many potent Ayurvedic herbs. When balanced with ginger, tulsi, and a hint of honey, it transforms into a soothing, rejuvenating brew that both energizes and calms.

Final Thoughts

Brewing Giloy tea is more than a health ritual – it’s an act of self-care rooted in centuries of Ayurvedic wisdom. With every sip, you’re nurturing your body’s natural defenses and aligning yourself with nature’s healing rhythm.

So next time you feel like your immunity needs a gentle boost or you simply want to unwind with something nourishing, brew yourself a cup of U-SIP’s various Giloy tea blends – the elixir of wellness.
